Help Internally Displaced People of Swat

More than two million people of Swat, Buner, Dir and the adjacent areas have left their homes in order to move away from the war zone. They had to leave behind most of their belongings and take bare minimum with them. Many of them had to walk on foot to reach the camps in safer areas and during this journey a number of family members got separated. These people who are used to the pleasant weather of Swat valley are now taking refuge in areas with hot weather. The lucky ones have tents to protect themselves from hot sun but many are still waiting to be provided with tents. (Image from PashtunPost).

The admirable people of areas like Mardan, Mansehra and Swabi have opened their houses for these IDPs. Thousands of families have been accommodated by them. The Tarakai family alone is housing around 6000 IDPs. In their limited resources people of Mardan are doing whatever they can but the displaced people are in hundreds of thousands and people of Mardan alone cannot support them all. We all have the responsibility to help our people in need. Lets stand up to this challenge and be counted. Lets not wait for someone else to help them. Lets not wait for foreign aid. Lets get together and do whatever is possible.

Here is a list of a few ways to donate for this cause. I will add more to this list.

Each and every one of us must contribute something to help. They are our country men and it is our duty to help them in this time of need.

The situation of these people is terrible. They have seen so many hardships in these few days that most of us cannot even imagine. And the sad thing is that their plight is continuing with no end in sight.

The total figure has crossed over 4 million now.
One name I found missing in the list is Kakakhel Relief Camp, a model camp for IDPs where not only free food and shelter is given, but arrangments have been made for a field hospital with seven ambulances, a mobile medical camp, a vocational center for ladies, school and play ground for children. Here are some details.
